Unveiling the Legacy: The Story of the Dixie Building - Home of the Grady County Museum

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the captivating history of the Dixie Building. This architectural gem holds a century-old legacy within its walls, serving as a cherished landmark in the heart of Grady County. Originally established on March 8, 1919, the Dixie Department Store was a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of Charles I. Miller and Ben Levine.

Replacing the renowned Dugan Store, which had opened its doors on Oklahoma's statehood day in 1907, the Dixie Department Store quickly became a bustling hub of commerce. With its impressive 12,000 square feet of floor space and a team of dedicated employees, the store epitomized the progressive vision of the era.

The Dixie Building itself was considered a marvel of modernity, boasting a frontage that exuded contemporary elegance. As the years passed, the building witnessed the evolution of Grady County, standing witness to the growth and transformation of the surrounding community.
